Groom-to-Be, 22, Shot and Killed Just Weeks Before His Wedding

Daniel Hussein, 22, was gunned down while walking with some friends in the suburb of Thomastown in Melbourne, Australia, on Sunday, Sept. 6, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), 9 News and 7 News. Daniel's father, Taleb Hussein, told 7 News that his son called friends for help after realizing that he was being followed by a black Porsche. The 22-year-old plumber allegedly confronted the gunman before being shot in the chest and then hit by the vehicle, according to 9 News. Paramedics and Daniel's relatives rushed to the scene. One witness, Barbara Cortese, told 9 News Australia that several of the man's family members could be heard screaming as paramedics attempted to revive him. Daniel Hussein. Facebook 'They couldn't bring him back, and just hearing the screams of the family… the wailing, that was really hard,' she recalled. Police are investigating whether the violence, which happened near the Lalor Soccer Club, may have stemmed from a dispute the day prior, according to local news outlets. 'Police believe the victim may have been involved in a confrontation with the offender or offenders in the reserve car park shortly before it occurred,' a police spokesperson told ABC. 'Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed any suspicious activity, or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage,' they added. Police are still searching for the suspect, according to ABC, 9 News and 7 News. PEOPLE has reached out to Melbourne Police for comment on the incident. Daniel's brother told ABC that he didn't believe Daniel was involved in any criminal activity and that he had been out that night to help a friend. Daniel's father, Taleb — who visited the scene of his son's death on Monday, Sept. 7 — said the 22-year-old was set to celebrate his wedding in just a few weeks, per the Herald Sun. Close family friend Edmond Dantes described Hussein to the outlet as someone who had 'the most infectious smile' and 'one of those rare people who could light up a room just by walking into it.' 'He touched so many lives, and he will never, ever be forgotten,' Dantes added. In a Facebook tribute, Daniel's uncle, Abdallah Hussein, wrote, per the Herald Sun, 'The pain of losing you is enormous and beyond words. You were not only my nephew. You were a piece of my heart. A part of my life. A child I helped carry into this world, and someone I thought would be there until the end of mine.'
