PBS 'Hometowns' crew arrives in Muskegon County to feature community in series

MUSKEGON, Mich. — A multitude of things make Muskegon County a special place to be, and PBS just arrived to find out what they are. "PBS Hometowns" is a show that sets out to uncover "the soulful narratives behind communities across the continent." With three seasons currently out, the "Hometowns" crew has explored everywhere from Virginia to Pennsylvania to Colorado, and on Sept. 7, they made their first stop in Muskegon County. More in Local Visit Muskegon said this week, the crew will focus on meeting local community members, hearing the county's stories and exploring the places that make it unique through suggestions made by its own residents. The crew kicked off their visit at The Brewer's Lounge at Pigeon Hill on Monday, where they were met with county officials, community members and locals who will be featured in the series. In addition to the filming for "Hometowns," the crew will be gathering footage in Muskegon for a new documentary about the Snurfer, a product that's widely recognized as the birth of the snowboard.
