Authorities Tighten Driving Licence Rules Under New Procedure

A new procedure for obtaining driving licences will come into force across the relevant traffic offices from September 17, 2026, introducing stricter deadlines for applicants appearing in the driving tests. Under the new rules, applicants who pass the e-sign test must take the road test within 24 hours. If the road test is not completed within the stipulated period, the e-sign test result will expire and the applicant will have to restart the entire process. Officials have also been directed to strictly enforce the new procedure. Even if an applicant passes both the e-sign and road tests within 24 hours, approval will not be granted unless a PSID is generated. According to traffic authorities, failure to generate the PSID within 24 hours will result in both test results being cancelled. Applicants must also pay the PSID fee within seven days, otherwise the entire application process will be cancelled. If the PSID expires, applicants will be required to retake both the e-sign and road tests within the prescribed 24-hour period. The DIG Traffic has issued instructions to traffic chiefs in all districts to ensure strict compliance with the new procedure.
