Amanda Seyfried's 'The Dropout' saw viewership rise 186% as Elizabeth Holmes' documentary renewed interest in Theranos Photo: Reuters Amanda Seyfried's The Dropout has recorded a significant viewership surge following renewed interest in Elizabeth Holmes sparked by A24's documentary You Can See Everything. The Hulu limited series, which premiered in 2022, saw viewing hours increase by 186% in September compared with August, according to Variety. The rise followed the September 6 announcement that the documentary had been produced in secret and continued as its wide theatrical release on October 16 approached. In August, The Dropout accumulated 420,000 hours of viewing time, equivalent to approximately 62,000 estimated views. The figure climbed to 1.2 million hours in September, representing around 176,000 estimated views. The series recorded another increase during the week of October 12, when viewing hours reached 422,000, marking a 92% rise from the previous week. By the time of Variety's report, the show had accumulated 997,000 viewing hours during October, bringing its combined total since September to 2.2 million hours and approximately 296,000 estimated views. Streaming search platform JustWatch also reported growing interest in the Hulu series. Searches for The Dropout increased by 200% week over week following the documentary's release, placing it at No. 10 in the platform's streaming search rankings. The renewed attention has extended beyond television. John Carreyrou, the journalist who exposed the fraudulent practices at Holmes' blood-testing company Theranos, returned to the New York Times bestseller list with his 2018 book, Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup. Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, You Can See Everything premiered as a surprise screening at the Telluride Film Festival. Created by Elizabeth Meriwether, The Dropout earned critical acclaim, with Seyfried winning an Emmy for her portrayal of Holmes. The actress recently said she was unsure whether she would want to meet Holmes but had followed her story on and off since making the series.
