Historic Geelong West Victorian home held for generations sells early in pre-auction deal

A classic Victorian-era house held in the same family for generations has been sold in a sliding doors moment the neighbours would be happy with. A Bellarine couple secured the double-fronted period house at 50 Candover St, Geelong West, in a deal signed prior to the property being offered at auction, Jellis Craig selling agent Greg Matheson said. 'There was a couple of main parties circling the property and the vendor said, 'look, with a couple there, let's get it under contract',' Mr Matheson said. It's been the family for generations, and it's gone to a lovely couple and it's going to be their forever home. 'They're going to renovate it and restore it back to its full glory,' he added. Mr Matheson said the 544sq m property near Pakington St had attracted interest from up to four groups during the campaign, with two prepared to take a punt when unconditional offers were sought late last week. The property sold midway through the $950,000 to $1.045m guide. 'One was a builder looking to do an extensive renovation and extend it, and then look to resell, and then the winning couple were a couple who to make it their forever home,' he said. 'That really resonated well with the family to be the next custodians.' The house retains the traditional layout of a Victorian home, with three bedrooms and a living room opening off the central hallway. A kitchen and dining room, and a laundry and bathroom are at the back of the house, where the backyard garden separates a garage and workshop and separate carport opening from a rear laneway. Mr Matheson said the call to bring forward the sale came as one of the parties was anxious about bidding at the auction. 'They were both in a position, unconditionally, to put their best foot forward so it was a great result. The neighbours are very happy with owner occupiers too,' he said.
