KP Food Authority's Crackdown On Adulteration Continues

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Aug, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority has spurred its crackdown against adulterated, substandard and hazardous food, conducting major raids in Peshawar, Nowshera and Swat. The authority's food safety teams inspected a number of food businesses and manufacturing units during the operations, confiscating and discarding large quantities of substandard food items and imposing fines on violators, according to a statement issued on Wednesday. In Peshawar, a food safety team, under the supervision of the Deputy Director Peshawar Division, raided a spice manufacturing unit on Charsadda Road and seized around 1,200 kilograms of bran. The unit was sealed over violations of food safety laws and further legal action was initiated against those responsible. In Swat, food safety teams, under the supervision of Director Operations Muhammad Yousaf Khan and the Deputy Director Malakand Division, conducted raids and inspections at factories manufacturing pops and snacks. The teams inspected production, storage and packaging areas and found violations of food safety and hygiene standards. The concerned units were fined for poor hygiene and other violations. A mobile food testing laboratory was also deployed in Swat to conduct on-the-spot testing of milk. Following the detection of skimmed milk powder adulteration, 1,000 litres of substandard milk were discarded. In Nowshera, food safety teams conducted raids and inspections in different areas, during which 80kg of hazardous chicken parts and 1,200 liters of substandard beverages were discarded. The teams also confiscated 115 cartons of beverages and imposed fines on the violators. Further legal proceedings were initiated against those found violating food safety regulations. The Special Assistant to KP CM on Food, Dr Muhammad Israr Khan lauded the performance of the food safety teams and said that violations of food safety laws would not be tolerated. Dr. Israr said the crackdown against elements involved in adulteration and the production and sale of substandard food would continue without discrimination, adding that all possible measures were being taken to safeguard public health.
