Word on the Street: Paul Greengrass, known for Captain Phillips (2013) and United 93 (2006), wrote and directed the film. My Take: This story inspired the Robin Hood legend. Hope (2026) Rating: R Release Date: In theaters on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Summary: Hope is set in a remote South Korean village where the police chief (Hwang Jung-min) and an officer (Zo In-sung) investigate a sighting of a mysterious creature that has caused chaos. At the same time, a group of local hunters starts tracking the beast, only to realize that they are the ones being hunted. What to Watch For: The film premiered at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Word on the Street: The film is the highest-budgeted South Korean film ever made. My Take: The film has an international cast including Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Russell, and Cameron Britton. The Fix (2026) Rating: R Release Date: In theaters on Friday, September 11, 2026. Summary: The Fix takes place at the end of the war in Afghanistan, where a group of former disillusioned CIA operators enter Tehran to take down a life-changing score of millions of dollars. What to Watch For: The cast includes Liam Neeson, Zachary Levi, Elnaaz Norouzi, Annet Mahendru, Grant Harvey, Quincy Isaiah, Laura Wolf, and Augusto Aguilera. Word on the Street: The basis of the film came from an idea by former CIA Intelligence Special Operations Group Officer Bazzel Baz. My Take: I find it interesting that the film's original title was Hotel Tehran. Don't Look Back in Anger (2026) Rating: R Release Date: In theaters and IMAX on Friday, September 11, 2026. Summary: Don't Look Back in Anger is a documentary about the 2025 reunion tour of the English rock band Oasis. What to Watch For: The film gives us a look at rehearsals, backstage, and concert footage. Word on the Street: The film features a joint interview of Liam and Noel Gallagher, who talk after 15 years of estrangement. My Take: I wonder if the filmmakers thought the tour would make it all the way through. Why Did I Get Married Again? (2026) Rating: PG-13 Release Date: Premieres on Netflix on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Summary: In Why Did I Get Married Again? the longtime friend group reunites in Italy for a destination wedding as Marcus (Michael Jai White) and Angela's (Tasha Smith) daughter, Jasmine, is marrying an athlete named Wesley. What to Watch For: Tyler Perry wrote, directed, and produced the film. Word on the Street: This is the third film in the series after Why Did I Get Married? (2007) and Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010). The TV spinoff show For Better or Worse created the characters that Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith portray. My Take: While Janet Jackson and Malik Yoba do not return for this film, Taraji P. Henson joins the cast. Along the way, Hank finds an unlikely partner in Ben (Owen Wilson), and it doesn't help that a ruthless cartel is determined to stop him from delivering the package in time. What to Watch For: Scott Waugh directed the film, known for Act of Valor (2012), Need for Speed (2014), and Hidden Strike (2023). Word on the Street: The script was on the 2023 'Black List' as one of the most-liked unproduced scripts that year. My Take: The cast includes Rodrigo Santoro, Leila George, Adriana Barraza, Sullivan Stapleton, Peta Sergeant, and Geraldine Hakewill. Summary: Mighty Mary is a documentary that follows the first all-women's sailing team to contend for the infamous America's Cup, the oldest international competition still operating in any sport. What to Watch For: Elizabeth Banks and Hugh Jackman narrate the film.
