KP transport authorities told to curb illegal stands, improve revenue collection

Peshawar - Special Assistant to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister for Transport and Mass Transit Samiullah Khan on Thursday directed Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) to step up action against illegal bus stands, terminals and goods-forwarding agencies and improve revenue collection. He issued the directives while chairing a meeting on the affairs of RTAs at his office in Peshawar. Secretary Provincial Transport Authority Naveed Akbar and secretaries of RTAs from across the province attended the meeting. Progress on action against illegal bus stands and terminals was also reviewed. Officials told the meeting that RTAs had performed well in revenue generation during the previous year, collecting more than their assigned targets for the provincial exchequer. The meeting directed that effective arrangements be made to ensure representation of RTAs at the local level in auctions of Class-C bus stands conducted by Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs), and to protect the authorities' legal rights concerning the revenue generated from such stands. He directed the authorities to seal such facilities where necessary. He said organising and improving the transparency of the provincial transport system was among the government's priorities. He directed RTAs to discharge their statutory responsibilities effectively and take practical measures to provide safer and better travel facilities to the public. The special assistant said all stakeholders in the transport sector must fulfil their responsibilities in accordance with the law and regulations to ensure transparency and discipline.
