New downtown business set to open in October, offering shoes and haircuts

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – A new business in downtown Johnson City has plans to bring shoes and haircuts to the people of the Tri-Cities in October. Laced Up Kicks and Cuts is a place where people can buy the latest streetwear, new and used shoes, get a haircut or even sell some shoes of their own, according to Tony Holmes, owner and founder of Laced Up Kicks and Cuts. The buy, sell, or trade and barber shop is located at 132 Spring St. in Johnson City. Holmes told News Channel 11 that he had always sold shoes but wanted to do something more sustainable; that is when he decided to become a barber. 'Then they both just kept working, so I was like, 'Why don't I just put this under one roof?'' said Holmes. 'I figured out a name for it, and then here we are.' He said that it's been a long process but that those are the most rewarding. 'I don't come from too much, you know. I think that hard work can get you anywhere you want to be in life,' he said. 'You don't need a lot of money. I didn't have a business handed to me or anything like that. It's just hard work and consistency.' Holmes hopes his new business will be a place where the youth can get a haircut, buy some shoes or clothes, or find a job or opportunity. 'You can just come by and have a good time,' he said. 'This will be a good meeting ground for, I think, a lot of people.' Holmes told News Channel 11 that he did not have a specific date yet for when the shop would open up but said it would be open 'definitely in October.'
