Crash kills 56-year-old woman in Shiawassee County

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A 56-year-old woman from Owosso was killed in a crash after her vehicle crossed over into oncoming traffic on Friday in Perry Township. According to the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to the S M-52 at around 8:39 a.m. after receiving reports of a crash. The sheriff's office says the woman was headed southbound on S M-52 when she lost control of the 'compact-sized vehicle' and crossed over into the northbound lanes. Her vehicle was hit in the rear while it 'rotated out of control across lanes' by a large passenger truck hauling an enclosed trailer. The truck driver was a 53-year-old man from Rapid City. The sheriff's office says that both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.
