It's understood that Desmond (Des) Carr, who was working in the county GAA grounds, was opening a gate or large door on rollers when it fell and fatally injured him.
The incident happened at 10.30am Thursday morning on what's known locally as the outside pitch which sits between Netwatch Cullen Park and the neighbouring O'Hanrahan's GAA Club.
Tributes are pouring in for Mr Carr, who was living in Chaplestown in Co Carlow and formally of London.
