Canada's Retaliatory Tariffs Hit American Pocketbooks

WASHINGTON (AURN News) — New Canadian tariffs take effect on $27.6 billion in U.S. goods, including steel, aluminum, dairy, appliances and electronics, matching U.S. tariffs dollar for dollar and rate for rate. The tariffs come after trade talks between the two countries collapsed last month, with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney saying, 'You're at war when you get attacked. We got attacked.' The economic impact won't be spread evenly. Pennsylvania has the most total dollars at stake, while Michigan faces the largest impact relative to the size of its economy. Auto parts and dairy are both exposed, and several of the states most vulnerable to the tariffs are also home to some of this year's most competitive midterm races. The bottom line: Two of the world's closest allies are now in an active trade war, and consumers on both sides of the border are likely to feel the effects in their wallets.
