Russia may suspend pre-show screenings in cinemas

The practice of pre-screening in Russian cinemas, which allowed foreign films to be shown without a rental certificate, may cease. This was announced to TASS on September 7 by Alexey Voronkov, head of the Association of Cinema Owners of the Russian Federation. According to him, the country is already completing the use of such a scheme. The pre-screening service mechanism was used by cinemas to showcase foreign films that did not officially have a rental certificate in the country. It is noted that the viewer purchased a ticket for the film, which was allowed to be shown, and in front of him the cinema showed another novelty, a foreign one, for free. Elena Yampolskaya, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Implementation of state Policy in the field of support for the Russian language and the Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation, spoke out against unlicensed film screenings in Russian cinemas on August 6.
