Ian Poulter shares emotional reaction to son Luke's Walker Cup victory

Having led Europe to multiple Ryder Cups, the LIV man watched his son, Luke, win the Walker Cup on Sunday. As Great Britain and Ireland pulled off their greatest comeback to win the 51st edition of the biennial event, Ian Poulter was left emotional as his son made history. 'It's emotional. As a dad, as a golf fan, I think you know I feel for all of them,' Poulter said. 'I've kind of been on the other side of that and now to enjoy that and to watch them enjoy it themselves it's it means a lot.' The tournament was slipping away on their home soil. Then came the singles. GB&I won the first four matches straight, clawing back point after point. GB&I's Stuart Grehan won the opening match against world No. 1 Preston Stout. Following that, it was Luke Poulter's turn. In an intense face-off, Poulter defeated 2025 Amateur champion Ethan Fang 3&1 and secured the second point for his team. In the end, Josh Hill landed the winning putt against Team USA's Tyler Watts to seal the comeback. 'To the whole team and all of the lads that was a hard fought out win today,' Ian Poulter added, as reported by Bunkered's Josh Lees. The elder Poulter has clinched endless matchplay victories over the years. But watching his son take the mantle must've been surreal. In fact, Luke Poulter aims to follow in the footsteps of his father. Luke Poulter's world No. 1 ambition Last year, Luke Poulter claimed that he aspires to reach the world No. 1 rank and make his Dad proud. 'The main goal is to get to No. 1 in the world. To win a major would be amazing," Poulter said, as reported by The Sun's Charlie Gordon. "But overall, I'd love just to follow in [my dad's] footsteps and make him proud.' Poulter is currently ranked eighth among men's amateurs and has got what it takes to reach the top. The 22-year-old is also set to make his PGA Tour debut next year at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill via an exemption.
