Crestline teacher Cameron Lyon dead after crash in Fairfield County

Crestline students are mourning the death of Cameron Lyon, a teacher for Crestline Exempted Village School District. Lyon died Sept. 6 after a crash in Fairfield County, according to an Ohio Highway Patrol report. The 23-year-old was driving his 2025 Chevrolet Trax west on U.S. 33 near U.S. 22 about 6:15 p.m. Sept. 6 when a 2016 GMC Terrain driven by Alvaro Uriber, 33, of Columbus, "traveled off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, went off road left and overturned into the westbound lanes, striking the Chevrolet Trax." "Lyon was treated on scene and transported by Hocking Township EMS to Fairfield Medical Center where he passed away a short time later," troopers noted. His passenger, Abrielle Kerns, 23, of Lancaster, who was Lyon's fiancée, was transported by Berne TownshipEMS to Mount Carmel East Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. "Uriber was transported by Lancaster EMS to Fairfield Medical Center with minor injuries," troopers noted. "Alcohol isa suspected factor in the crash." Lyon, who taught grades 5-6 at Crestline, grew up in Caledonia in Marion County. He graduated from River Valley High School in 2021 and Otterbein University in 2025. "Our hearts are broken for his family, his fiancée, his students, his colleagues and all those whose lives he touched," Crestline schools noted.
