New Moray choir launched by TV composer behind Royal Variety theme

An accomplished TV composer and choir leader has handed out an open invitation to anyone who loves music to join a brand-new community choir. Nik Haley, whose compositions have been heard on programs across the globe for over 20 years, has launched the Moray Show Choir. TV composer Nik Haley. He said: "There's a wonderfully vibrant music and arts scene up here, and clearly a hunger for singing. "There really is nothing better than being in a room full of people who are all there to enjoy singing together." Having moved to the area four years ago, Nik boasts an impressive industry resumé, co-writing the theme music for the Royal Variety Performance and collaborating with the renowned filmmaker Richard Curtis. Beyond composing, he spent six years as a choir leader for Rock Choir, managing over 600 members across the South East of England. His conducting credits include leading choirs and orchestras at prestigious venues such as the O2 Arena, Wembley Arena, the NEC Arena and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. The newly formed group, which rehearses a mix of pop songs and numbers from musicals, is already receiving glowing reviews from its members across Moray. Serena Lasol from Lossiemouth described the experience as "wonderful, a very happy vibe." Leah Hay from Buckpool highlighted the sense of community the choir brings, stating, "It's really nice togetherness, just having people that you wouldn't normally meet be in a room, and get to share the joy of singing together." The choir meets at Elgin Library on Saturdays from 10am-11.30am Looking ahead, Nik envisions the choir singing at community and fundraising events as well as holding full-scale concerts. He said: "We're looking forward to the opening of the new Elgin Town Hall, where we definitely hope to perform," he noted. The Moray Show Choir rehearses weekly during term time on Saturdays from 10am to 11.30am at Elgin Library in Cooper Park. There are no auditions and no prior experience is required. Members do not need to read music or sing solos. While it is primarily an adult choir, enthusiastic younger singers over the age of 12 are also welcome.
