Heisman Trophy odds, top contenders entering Week 2

After just one week of college football, the Heisman odds are already shifting. Going into Week 1, Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr was the favorite for the Heisman, but after Miami's dominant performance, they now have two players who are contenders to win the Heisman. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss also saw his odds increase slightly after the Rebels' impressive win over Louisville. The only player who dropped out of the top eight from last week to now is quarterback Josh Hoover from Indiana, despite leading the Hoosiers to a 52-16 win and throwing four touchdowns. That is probably because he didn't throw the ball much, with only 16 pass attempts in the entire game. But if he impresses throughout the rest of the season, he could return as a Heisman contender. Below are the eight players with the best Heisman Trophy betting odds entering Week 2 via BetMGM: Ohio State QB Julian Sayin Current Odds: +1500 The No. 1 team in the country dominated Ball State in their season opener with a 56-3 win. Sayin finished the game with 320 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, a rushing touchdown and a completion percentage of 84 percent. If he keeps that kind of production up, he will certainly be a Heisman finalist at the end of the season and remains my personal favorite to be this season's Heisman at the season's end. Oregon QB Dante Moore Current Odds: +1500 Oregon got a score from Boise State in their opener but survived with a 34-27 win. Moore finished the game with 378 passing yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown to Dakorien Moore, who showed impressive run-after-the-catch ability, ultimately won the game for the Ducks. Oregon's matchups against USC in Week 3 and Ohio State later in the season will ultimately prove if Moore is really worthy of winning the Heisman. Miami WR Malachi Toney Current Odds: +1400 Toney is the newcomer to the top eight Heisman contenders after his 12 receptions for 234 receiving yards and three touchdowns in the season opener against Stanford. Toney led the FBS in receptions last season as well as leading the ACC in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He is already on his way to demolishing what he did last year as a true freshman. Watch out for Toney as a dark horse Heisman candidate. Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss Current Odds: +1300 If you were wondering why Ole Miss wanted Chambliss back for one more year, he answered that question in the first matchup of the season between two ranked teams when No. 9 Ole Miss faced No. 24 Louisville. Chambliss looked like an NFL quarterback in that game and led the Rebels on their eight-play, 40-yard drive to set up the game-winning field goal. He was not perfect, as he did have a pick, but he certainly looked like someone who could be hoisting the Heisman trophy this season. Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith Current Odds: +1200 Among wide receivers, Jeremiah Smith is still the favorite to win the Heisman after posting eight receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns against Ball State. Playing against Texas will be a good test for Smith. In the two games Smith has played against the Longhorns, he has seven receptions for 46 yards with no touchdowns. If he can finally overcome Texas, this may be the year he wins the Heisman. Notre Dame QB CJ Carr Current Odds: +1100 It is hard to believe that Carr will win the Heisman after Notre Dame's performance against Wisconsin. No question, this is an elite team. However, the Fighting Irish will always be the team that wants to rely on their run game. The quarterback for a team that loves the run game will not be a Heisman winner. Texas QB Arch Manning Current Odds: +1100 No disrespect to Texas State, but they are not the best measuring stick of whether or not a quarterback should win the Heisman. Still, Manning put up 305 passing yards and four touchdowns in his season debut. Texas' matchup against Ohio State will be a better measuring stick of whether he has finally taken the jump the Longhorns wanted him to. Miami QB Darian Mensah Current Odds: +650 Arguably no quarterback had a better debut than Darian Mensah against Stanford. He had more touchdowns (five) than incompletions (three), completing 90 percent of his passes and just over 400 passing yards. It is clear why he is the new Heisman favorite, and if he keeps this up and gets Miami back to the playoffs, he will win the Heisman this season.
