Supporting Charlotte Nutt

Dear Editor: Charlotte Nutt is running to be our Representative to the Maine House. When she is elected in November she will succeed Rep. Holly Stover who cannot run again; under Maine state law, Holly is termed out. Charlotte grew up in Edgecomb, attended local schools, and went on to Dartmouth College and USM. Since then, she has been working for the Midcoast Council of Governments, gathering and organizing data to help our towns make better decisions on affordable housing, and climate change such as the winter storms of 2024, among others. In this work, she helps municipal leaders plan efforts in housing, transportation, economic development, and environmental sustainability. As she says, Maine, and especially the Midcoast has incredible businesses in the maritime trades, lobstering, and artists and chefs who make us who we are. She will work to support them In every way she can in Augusta. Charlotte is very concerned that we do not lose our way of life on the peninsula and in the Midcoast. Our lack of affordable housing and healthcare options, pressures on the working waterfronts and heritage industries, and a decreasing number of young families are all a threat to the area. There is no one solution but, as she says, we need to take action on all fronts to keep our home as we know it. She is the kind of young person we need in Augusta to meet the challenges ahead.
