Khawaja Asif calls for new administrative units
Separately, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has called for reconsidering Pakistan's existing administrative structure, arguing that population growth has increased the need for smaller administrative units to improve governance and public service delivery.
Speaking to a private television channel, Asif said Pakistan should explore the creation of additional administrative units, noting that several countries had adopted similar arrangements to make governance more effective.
He argued that administrative powers should not remain concentrated in provincial capitals such as Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar. Instead, authority should be devolved to smaller units to bring government services closer to the public.
The defence minister said decentralising administrative powers could help improve governance and make public institutions more responsive to local needs.
