BTS V reveals personal health struggle he kept private from fans until now
Kim Tae-hyung, better known as his stage name V, opened up about a personal health struggle, prompting an outpouring of concern from BTS ARMY.
During a recent Weverse livestream with fellow BTS member Jungkook, the K-pop sensation revealed his hearing had gradually worsened over the course of around two and a half years.
The shocking revelation unfolded during the duo's candid conversation as they were enjoying their food, listened to music and chatted with fans.
'I've never told ARMYs this before, but it's been about two and a half years, I think. My hearing started getting worse,' V shared.
The youngest member of the septet appeared concerned as he asked whether the 30-year-old's hearing had improved after a recent hospital visit.
The South Korean artist then explained the difference in his hearing, saying, 'Maybe after a month? Like, if I can hear 100 over here, I can only hear about 30 over here.'
The upsetting update appeared to worry Jungkook, 28, who immediately encouraged his bandmate to take care of himself.
V went on to explain that he has been taking his medication consistently and visiting the hospital regularly. He also recalled how the problem became worse during his military service, when he initially convinced himself that the issue might simply be related to mental strength.
'Actually, when it got worse during my military service, everyone there was really into working out, so they'd say things like, 'It's all about mental strength,'' V said. 'I ended up kind of convincing myself that it was a mental-strength issue.'
Jungkook quickly pushed back against that way of thinking.
Clips from the conversation have since drawn attention among fans, many of whom expressed concern for the singer while sending messages of support and hoping his hearing improves.
'That must be so scary, especially as someone who loves music and makes music himself. I hope he gets better and he can get his hearing back fully,' one fan wrote.
Another commented, 'Oh my baby, I hope you get well soon. My heart hurts.'
'This is so heartbreaking, sweet baby Tae, you are going to get better soon,' another fan added.
