Shelbie Skelton

Shelbie Jean Skelton (Reed) Hendersonville, Tennessee Shelbie, age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at NHC Franklin, TN with her family by her side. She was born in Hohenwald, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Paul and Marie Reed. Preceded in death by her Husband, Raymond Skelton, son Randal Skelton, brothers Huey, Frank and David Reed. Survived by sons Don Skelton (Jane) and Michael Skelton (Kim), Grandsons Justin Skelton (Trisha) and Josh Skelton (Braiden) and brother Rex Reed (Carlene). Shelbie was a beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. From her simple beginnings in Hohenwald, she lived at the end of the 'Lane' in a 2-room log house with her 4 brothers, her grandmother and her parents. Shelbie and Raymond married in 1957 and shared 64 years of marriage together. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Nashville and in 1966 moved to Hendersonville, where they bought their first home on Maple Drive. She worked tirelessly in her early family life supporting her parents and husband who was often away from home working for Western Electric. While she was a homemaker for several years, later in life she decided to find a job. She had an opportunity to become an orthodontic assistant and despite not having any knowledge of orthodontics she was all in, studied and obtained her certification. This was a huge achievement that she was very proud of. After several years as an orthodontic assistant, she continued working in dentistry working as a dental assistant. The only downside from her family's perspective – according to her, she was 'Smarter than doctors'! She was a member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville where she worshiped her Lord and attended the Davis Sunday School class. She experienced great joy spending time with family, cooking during holidays, and loved eating chocolate particularly peanut M&Ms, and drinking Cokes.
