Beverly Ridge Lions Club sponsors Leo Club at Eisenhower

The Beverly Ridge Lions Club recently sponsored a Leo Club at Eisenhower High School in Blue Island. The Leo Club program is operated by Lions Clubs International and encourages youths to develop leadership, teamwork and character through community service. Peter Berghoff is the Leo liaison for the Beverly Ridge Lions Club. Berghoff has been working with Leo Club Advisor Amy Stevens, who is also the school librarian at Eisenhower. Stevens has devoted her time to the students and this thriving organization. At one of the first meetings that Berghoff attended, 15 to 20 students were present for the meeting, and he was told that there are others who are active in the club. Students attend meetings as other school commitments permit. Their enthusiasm was evident in the discussions observed, and Berghoff was excited to see young people so proud to serve their community. The Beverly Ridge Lions Club's role will be to establish and strengthen a connection with the Eisenhower Leos and support them. In the spring, the Beverly Ridge Lions Club approved donating $500 to the Eisenhower Leo Club for an award to be given at its end-of-year celebration. This $500 award was presented to Rosa Maria Castillo, who was earlier named Leo of the Year for Chicago District 1-A. Other students who were recognized at the celebration included seven Leo Club members who have been named Illinois State Scholars and one student, Adamaris Esparza, who will be attending Yale University in the fall. These high school students have made a promising start on a lifetime of service. They are the future of their communities and the future of Lionism. The Beverly Ridge Lions Club is grateful to have been chosen by Lions International to support this wonderful group of students in the Leo Club at Eisenhower High School.
