Volunteers needed for Nairn dune resilience project

The marram in August 2026. Work to help ensure the beach is thriving, is set to take place in Nairn this week. Volunteers are being asked to come forward to take part in the event on September 10 from 9.30am until 12.30pm. The event is part of Nairn Dune Resilience project, being organised by Nairn Improvement Community Enterprise. Pilot work took place last year, which involved marram grass being replanted at Central Beach. The marram planted last year. Mandy Lawson, of NICE said: 'We can report that the marram grass replanted last year on Central Beach is thriving and helping to encourage dune resilience. 'This helps protect the Links and Fishertown from winter storms and high tides and helps coastal wildlife thrive such as the Small Blue butterfly, which was spotted in record numbers this summer.' This year community volunteers started clearing low level scrub at the front of the dunes at the Sundancer end of the beach. Those wishing to volunteer can meet at the Seamans Hall at 9.30am.
