Company reports over 10,000 cumulative BYD vehicle sales in Pakistan as electric mobility business posts Rs1.5bn quarterly profit.
The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO) plans to commence local production of Chinese automaker BYD's vehicles in December 2026, with the Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) set to become the first locally assembled model in Pakistan.
According to a report issued by Arif Habib Limited (AHL) following HUBCO's analyst briefing on Tuesday, the company's electric mobility business has recorded cumulative BYD vehicle sales exceeding 10,000 units in Pakistan.
The business posted a profit of approximately Rs1.5 billion during the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27 (1QFY27), of which HUBCO's share amounted to Rs780 million.
'Management expects growth momentum to strengthen following the commencement of local CKD production, targeted for Dec'26, with the Sealion 6 PHEV as the first locally assembled model,' AHL said in its report.
The company is also evaluating the introduction of additional vehicles, particularly in the higher-volume B and C segments, as it seeks to expand its presence in Pakistan's automotive market.
'The company is also evaluating additional models, particularly in the higher-volume B and C segments, with the Sealion 6, B8 and B5 expected around end-CY26,' the brokerage added.
The development comes as HUBCO expands its automotive operations through its association with BYD, which entered Pakistan's passenger vehicle market in March 2024.
BYD's local operations are managed by Mega Motor Company (Private) Limited (MMC), an associated company of HUBCO through its wholly owned subsidiary, Hub Power Holdings. MMC is responsible for the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of BYD-branded passenger vehicles in Pakistan.
The upcoming manufacturing facility near Karachi, being developed through a partnership between BYD and MMC, will initially have an annual production capacity of 25,000 vehicles on a double-shift basis.
The facility is designed to accommodate future expansion, with production capacity potentially increasing to 50,000 vehicles annually.
The commencement of completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly will mark BYD's transition from reliance on imported vehicles towards local production in Pakistan.
HUBCO has also expressed interest in developing electric vehicle charging infrastructure as part of its broader diversification into the country's electric mobility sector.
