Exchange adds record 25,747 new investors in October, with Gen Z and Millennials accounting for 85% of new participants. The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) investor base has reached a record 681,965 as of October 2026, registering a 56% year-on-year increase amid growing retail participation in the country's capital markets. According to data shared by the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday, a total of 25,747 new investor accounts were added during October, marking the highest monthly addition on record. The ministry described the increase as 'a remarkable shift in investor participation, reflecting growing confidence and signalling a deeper transformation of Pakistan's capital markets'. The latest figures indicate a significant acceleration in investor participation, with the exchange adding 218,894 net new investors during the first 10 months of 2026 alone. 'In just 10 months (Jan-Oct26), PSX added 218,894 net new investors — more than the last four full years combined, matching nearly five years!' the ministry said. The data also highlighted a growing presence of younger investors in Pakistan's equity market, with Gen Z and Millennials accounting for 85% of new investors. The trend points towards increasing participation by younger generations in the country's formal investment market, alongside a broader expansion of the PSX investor base. The latest milestone follows the exchange crossing the 600,000-investor mark in August 2026, with the addition of more than 80,000 investors since then. The sharp increase in investor registrations during 2026 reflects an expansion in the number of individuals participating in the stock market, with the pace of new additions during January-October exceeding the combined additions recorded over the previous four full years, according to the ministry. The Finance Ministry said the growing investor base signals a broader transformation in Pakistan's capital markets, with younger investors playing an increasingly prominent role in the expansion.
