Sept showers lift rain tally, but Indore still faces seasonal deficit

Indore : Monday's 58.2 mm downpour gave Indore's rain tally a substantial boost, but the city continues to face a sizeable shortfall in monsoon showers. With Monday's spell, Indore has received around 79.1 mm of rain in Sept so far, based on rainfall recorded on Sept 4 and subsequent spells. Before Monday, the city had recorded 20.9 mm of rainfall in Sept, including 17.8 mm on Sept 4. Monday's rain accounted for nearly three-fourths of the month's rainfall so far, bringing some relief after a prolonged lull. However, the spell has done little to erase the overall seasonal deficit. As per Indore's climatic features for Sept, the month receives an average rainfall of 167.2 mm, with an average of 7.7 rainy days. Of these, around 1.1 days are associated with thunderstorms. With 79.1 mm already recorded in the first week, the city has received nearly 47% of its normal Sept showers. The city's cumulative rainfall has now reached 543.5 mm, after Monday's 58.2 mm spell, but it remains 234.1 mm below the normal rainfall of 777.6 mm for this period. Weather conditions, however, are unlikely to support another substantial spell in the coming days. According to meteorologists, no strong or effective weather system is currently active over western Madhya Pradesh. A low-pressure area lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southwest Uttar Pradesh , while the monsoon trough is also passing through the region. These systems, however, are not expected to produce significant rain over Indore. The city may see localised cloud formation and isolated drizzle during the coming week. The absence of a strong system means prolonged or heavy rain is unlikely over Indore and other parts of western Madhya Pradesh. Day temperature is also expected to rise, accompanied by increased humidity, making conditions uncomfortable despite occasional cloud cover. The weather department expects comparatively better rainfall activity over northeastern Madhya Pradesh in the coming days. Heavy rainfall warnings have been issued for parts of the region, including Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Satna and Rewa.
