Killeen to host free emergency preparedness town hall Sept. 24

KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen residents will have an opportunity to learn how the city prepares for emergencies and what they can do to protect themselves and their families during a preparedness town hall Sept. 24. The City of Killeen's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management will host the free event from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fire Station No. 4, 9200 Trimmier Road. More in Local The town hall will cover the city's emergency operations center, emergency preparedness tips, alerts and warnings, personal preparedness and volunteer opportunities. 'Preparedness starts before an emergency happens,' said Sara Williams, director of Killeen's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management. Williams said the event will help residents better understand how the city prepares for emergencies while learning steps they can take to prepare themselves, their families and their neighbors. The city's emergency management office works with local departments and regional, state and federal partners to prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters and large-scale emergencies.
