The recent auction of tax-delinquent properties in Craighead and surrounding counties raised almost $707,000, the Commissioner of State Lands announced. Little Rock, AR – Contributed – The recent auction of tax-delinquent properties in Craighead and surrounding counties raised almost $707,000, the Commissioner of State Lands announced. The regional auction drew 121 registered bidders, who purchased 167 of 205 available parcels for $707,222.69. Results were as follows: Craighead County: 21 parcels offered; 17 parcels sold; $147,735.04 total; $27,664.25 taxes collected 21 parcels offered; 17 parcels sold; $147,735.04 total; $27,664.25 taxes collected Mississippi County: 162 parcels offered; 131 parcels sold; $421,687.65 total; $83,464.26 taxes collected 162 parcels offered; 131 parcels sold; $421,687.65 total; $83,464.26 taxes collected Poinsett County: 22 parcels offered; 19 parcels sold; $137,800.00 total; $14,690.15 taxes collected The auctions offered real estate parcels with taxes delinquent since 2021. 'Most owners redeem their property by paying the delinquent taxes; we only auction a fraction of the parcels certified for delinquent taxes,' Commissioner Tommy Land said. 'Of course, we hope property is redeemed if the owners want to keep it, but it is vital that the parcels return to the county's active tax rolls.' | ADD US ON GOOGLE NEWS: Click here to see more local news from Jonesboro Right Now The COSL office disburses taxes and interest to the county, whether that money is collected through redemption or sale. 'Last year, the Commissioner of State Lands Office sent more than $24 million to school districts and county governments,' Land said. 'Of that, $926,030.85 went to these three counties, helping fund everything from roads to schools.' Those turnback amounts were: Craighead County: $269,056.71 $269,056.71 Mississippi County: $525,389.94 $525,389.94 Poinsett County: $131,584.20 Auction sales are final. Unsold parcels may be redeemed online here using a credit or debit card, or owners can call 501-324-9422 to request a Petition to Redeem. Redemption does not grant ownership; it simply makes the taxes current.
