Former Rawalpindi district nazim and PML-N ex-MNA Raja Jawaid Ikhlas said the project was conceived during the PML-N government in 2015. He credited the Punjab government, under the chief minister's guidance and with the provision of funds, for advancing the project towards completion. He said the Ring Road would provide easier access to Islamabad International Airport for overseas Pakistanis from Gujar Khan, Kallar Syedan, Jhelum, Mirpur and Dadyal, while helping reduce the burden of heavy traffic on Rawalpindi city.
Mr Ikhlas added that the road, passing through Gujar Khan, Rawalpindi and Taxila tehsils, would stimulate commercial and economic activity in surrounding areas and improve the livelihoods of local residents.
