August 21, 2026 (MLN): The government has appointed National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Chief Financial Officer Abdul Wahid Sethi as Acting President and Chief Executive Officer of the state-owned bank.
Abdul Wahid Sethi would run the bank's affairs on an interim basis for three months, or until a permanent President and CEO is put in place, whichever happens sooner, according to a notification issued.
The move falls under the requirements of the Corporate Governance Regulatory Framework.
Within banking circles, Abdul Wahid Sethi carries a reputation as a seasoned and capable professional, with colleagues pointing to his consistent success in navigating intricate financial and banking challenges.
His appointment takes effect immediately after the departure of Rehmat Ali Hasnie, whose term as NBP's President and CEO concluded on the same day, August 21.
