Urbana crews put out apartment fire within minutes Monday night; one displaced

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Urbana fire crews battled an apartment fire Monday night. It happened on Prairie Green Drive near Washington Street and Smith Road. Several people reported the fire, and crews had the flames under control within just a few minutes. One Urbana Fire Captain said he's thankful the fire was contained before it had the chance to spread. 'The occupant of the fire apartment was home at at the time the fire started. It was one of the people who notified us. I do know that she was transported for for observation. I don't know the extent of of injuries,' Captain Craig Dilley said. The fire was contained to that one apartment, but one person was displaced. The Salvation Army is assisting with food and shelter. A cause of the fire has not yet been released.
