Lindsay Clancy attorney asks Trump for pardon after mistrial

(NewsNation) – Lindsay Clancy's attorney stated in a new interview that he hopes President Donald Trump will consider a pardon for his client. Judge William F. Sullivan declared a mistrial last week after jurors failed to reach an agreement in the case. Sullivan set another hearing for Sept. 29, but Clancy's attorney, Kevin Reddington, appears to be hoping Trump can somehow intervene in the coming weeks. During an appearance on 'Good Morning America' on Tuesday, Reddington said he hopes an agreement can be reached between prosecutors and the defense and that Trump will consider a pardon. 'Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady and the person she is, what she's been through, and consider a pardon,' Reddington said. The president, however, only has the authority to pardon those charged with federal crimes. Clancy is on trial in Massachusetts on state charges. Clancy has been charged with murder in the deaths of her three young children. Prosecutors say it was a premeditated crime, but her defense says she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and is not criminally responsible for her actions. Prosecutors have yet to make a decision on whether they will retry the case. Speaking to the press after the mistrial was declared, Reddington indicated that the jury was moving to find Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity, with one juror as a holdout. Following the mistrial, prosecutors have the option of retrying the case, making a plea deal or dropping the charges.
