. Heavy rainfall has continued across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since Monday night, causing widespread disruption and flooding. PHOTO: EXPRESS The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Sunday that water flows in most of the province's rivers remained normal, although low-level flooding was being recorded at several locations along the Indus and in some drains in Narowal and Shakargarh. According to the PDMA spokesperson, water levels in the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej rivers, as well as the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, remained normal. However, low-level flooding was reported at Kalabagh, Tarbela, Taunsa and Chashma on the Indus River, with flows recorded at 379,000 cusecs at Kalabagh, 316,000 cusecs at Chashma, 324,000 cusecs at Taunsa and 263,000 cusecs at Tarbela. Low-level flooding was also reported in the Basantar, Aik and Bain nullahs in Shakargarh, Narowal. Tarbela Dam had reached 100 per cent capacity, while Mangla Dam was 68 per cent full. The PDMA said it was continuously monitoring the situation. PDMA Director General Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa said, on the instructions of the Punjab government, flood relief camps had been established in affected areas, where displaced people would be provided accommodation, food, clean drinking water, medical facilities and other basic necessities. Jappa urged citizens to take precautionary measures in view of the prevailing weather and flood situation and avoid unnecessary visits or recreational activities near rivers, canals, streams and rainwater channels. He also urged parents to take special care of their children and not allow them to bathe in or enter rivers, canals, streams or floodwaters under any circumstances. He said citizens should follow the instructions of relevant authorities in case of any emergency and take timely precautionary measures to ensure the safety of themselves and their families.
