Benue Govt Makes Shocking Revelation About Peter Obi's Visit

The Benue State Government has said it was not informed about the reported visit of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, to the state. The clarification followed reports that Obi's convoy was allegedly blocked by youths while he attempted to access the state. The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Kula Tersoo, disclosed this in a telephone interview with Vanguard on Tuesday. Tersoo said neither the governor nor the state government was aware of Obi's reported visit to Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area where more than 200 people were reportedly killed in a recent attack. According to him, security agencies should have been notified ahead of the visit to enable adequate protection for the former governor and presidential candidate. He said: 'Peter Obi is a presidential candidate of a political party and a former two-term governor. He is not a small man in this country. He is supposed to be prepared for and given adequate security. 'If you are visiting a state, the security apparatus of the state is supposed to know. The Commissioner of Police, Director of DSS, Civil Defence and others are supposed to be aware so that they can provide adequate security for you.' The governor's spokesman also questioned how Obi could have allegedly been stopped by youths if proper security arrangements had been made for his movement. Tersoo dismissed claims that Governor Alia could have mobilised youths to prevent Obi from accessing the state, insisting that the governor did not support thuggery.
