Zcash (ZEC), the privacy-focused cryptocurrency, has recorded one of its most bullish moments in nearly a decade, with the asset trading above $1,256 on Binance as its broader market capitalization peaked at $21.11 billion, according to TradingView CryptoCap data.
The surge has placed ZEC among the best-performing assets in the market. CoinMarketCap ranks it as the fifth-best-performing cryptocurrency among the top 100 assets over the past three months, with a 163% gain, trailing only Uniswap (UNI), Pump.fun (PUMP), Lighter (LIT), and Pons (PONS).
From its all-time high of $5,941, ZEC remains about 80% away from its peak, according to CoinMarketCap. On a year-to-date basis, the asset is up 124%, while it has gained more than 2,300% over the past year, marking a significant return for investors who accumulated ZEC during this period.
The latest technical indicators suggest that bears may be starting to take control of the market, raising the possibility of a short-term decline. This is evident from the bearish crossover forming on the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) indicator, alongside a shift in the Parabolic SAR.
The MACD compares two exponential moving averages to track changes in momentum. When the blue MACD line crosses below the orange signal line, it indicates that bullish momentum is weakening and can point to the beginning of a bearish move. Similarly, the Parabolic SAR, or Stop and Reverse indicator, tracks the direction of an asset's trend through a series of dots on the chart. When the dots move above the price, it suggests that the trend has shifted toward a downtrend and that sellers are gaining control.
Notably, the last time ZEC recorded a similar bearish MACD crossover alongside a shift in the Parabolic SAR, the token declined by about 12% before recovering. If a similar fractal plays out, the current decline could be another temporary correction before ZEC resumes its broader recovery. A 12% decline from current levels would bring ZEC toward the $1,000 area.
ZEC remains well positioned for a potential upswing in the near term, despite the short-term bearish signals,. The next move, however, will also depend heavily on sentiment across the broader crypto market and among ZEC investors.
Current market conditions remain relatively bullish and relaxed, which could provide ZEC with the support needed to recover from any short-term correction. The token is also benefiting from strong investor attention, with CoinMarketCap recording a 24-hour sentiment score of 4.98 and mindshare rising to 99,590 at the time of writing.
This growing market attention could help ZEC attract fresh demand if buyers continue to defend key price levels. For now, the $1,000 region remains an important level to watch. A correction toward this area would still fit within the broader bullish structure, particularly if buyers quickly step in and push the token higher.
Overall, ZEC's recent rally remains intact despite the emergence of bearish technical signals. While the MACD and Parabolic SAR point to a possible short-term decline, the strength of its broader performance, rising mindshare and favorable market sentiment leave room for a rebound if buyers maintain control around key support levels.
ZEC has faced a major security concern that briefly put its bullish momentum under pressure. On May 29, 2026, security researcher Taylor Hornby discovered a critical vulnerability in Zcash's Orchard shielded pool, which had been active since 2022. The flaw could have allowed an attacker to create an unlimited amount of counterfeit ZEC without leaving an obvious trace on the blockchain.
Zcash developers moved quickly after Hornby reported the issue, temporarily disabling Orchard transactions before deploying a fix. The emergency remediation began on June 1 and was completed through network upgrades on June 2 and 3. At the time, there was no evidence that the vulnerability had been exploited.

However, the bigger concern for investors was that Zcash's privacy design made it difficult to prove whether someone had exploited the vulnerability before it was discovered. Because Orchard transactions are shielded, developers could not use cryptography alone to completely rule out the possibility that counterfeit ZEC had been created while the bug was active. Shielded Labs said an earlier exploit was unlikely, but acknowledged that it could not be ruled out with absolute certainty.
The concern quickly reached the market after the vulnerability was publicly disclosed on June 4. ZEC fell more than 60% within 48 hours, dropping from around $630 to a low of $250, a level it had last traded at in April.
