Hull veteran murdered in confrontation with group on night out, court told

An army veteran was murdered by a group including twin sisters following a confrontation on a night out, a court has heard. Martin Chadburn, 53, suffered a "non-survivable" brain injury in the incident in Hull, the city's crown court was told. Sisters Britney and Bethany Naylor, aged 20 and from Hull, are on trial accused of murder, along with Kristjan Suits, 35, and Lucasz Matusiak, 27, both of Hull. Shaytoyia Farrow, 21, of Peter Street, Blackpool, is also charged with murder. All five deny the charge, as well as the lesser offence of manslaughter. David Brooke KC, prosecuting, told the court Mr Chadburn, who was a development officer for the Hull 4 Heroes charity, was fatally injured in the early hours of 19 April. "He was found to have a non-survivable brain injury," Mr Brooke said. He died two days later. The court was told Mr Chadburn and a friend had been on a night out and were drunk. They encountered the Naylor twins and Farrow after leaving a pub. Mr Chadburn's friend said he could not remember what sparked a confrontation but a witness said he made offensive comments towards the trio. "Unfortunately, it did not end there," Mr Brooke said. Hundreds attended Mr Chadburn's funeral. Credit: ITV News Bethany Naylor was said to have stubbed out a cigarette on the neck of Mr Chadburn's friend. Farrow and Britney Naylor followed her. Suits and Matusiak, who had been on their own night out, saw what was happening and became involved. Britney Naylor punched Mr Chadburn in the face and he threw a punch at her, the court heard. Matusiak was said to have punched Mr Chadburn five times, causing him to fall to the ground. Farrow was said to have stamped on his back while he was on the ground. "By the end of this, Martin Chadburn is on the ground with a fatal brain injury," Mr Brooke said. He described it as a case of "street violence and a joint enterprise". "This was plainly unlawful group violence," he said. The trial, estimated to last four weeks, continues. Hull 4 Heroes described Mr Chadburn as an "amazing friend and colleague" following his death.
