Safaricom has told customers they can stop unsolicited Dynamic Signature and Call Sign alerts by sending the word 'STOP' to 836 after a subscriber complained that the messages were flooding his inbox whenever he made a call.
The guidance followed a public appeal by Facebook user Fwaro D Fwaro, who asked how to block what he described as 'unsolicited annoying so called personalised Funny Dynamic Signature' messages linked to the short code 83651#.
The subscriber said the messages arrived from people he called and were filling his inbox for no reason.
'How do I stop receiving unsolicited, annoying so-called 'personalised Funny dynamics signature dial *836*51# ' messages from every person I call? They are filling my inbox for no reason.'
In a reply dated September 7, 2026, Safaricom PLC apologised and advised him to send STOP to 836.
'Hello Fwaro, our apologies. Kindly send the word STOP to 836. ^ST,' Safaricom noted in a response.
How to stop Dynamic Signature messages
The messages many subscribers have encountered read: 'Do you like your friend's signature? Reply with '1' to set your friend's signature as your call sign. Dial 83651# to set Funny Dynamic Signatures and inspire your callers. To stop receiving these messages reply STOP.'
The alerts are linked to Safaricom's Call Sign service, a personalised feature that allows subscribers to display a selected message to people who call them after the conversation ends.
The service can display messages such as inspirational lines, Bible verses, Quran quotes and other short texts.
Safaricom's terms state that Call Sign is available to prepaid and postpaid customers for Safaricom-to-Safaricom calls. The service costs Ksh 2 per day and renews automatically until cancelled.
Customers who subscribe to the service can manage or deactivate it through *836#.
Difference between Call Sign and other alerts
The person receiving the message is not necessarily the subscriber who activated the service.

When a customer calls someone who has activated Call Sign, the caller can receive the personalised signature after the conversation.
Safaricom has therefore provided a separate opt-out option for customers who do not want to receive the prompts.
A different after-call alert is generated by the End of Call Notification service. The notification can provide information such as call duration, remaining airtime or promotional messages.
In July 2026, X user Peter Mucheke asked Safaricom for a permanent solution after earlier advice did not resolve the notifications.
Safaricom distinguished the two services, advising customers to deactivate Call Sign through *836#, while those receiving End of Call Notification can dial *456#, select My Account, then End of Call Notification and opt out.
Safaricom gives customers self-service options
Safaricom has also provided an alternative route for customers seeking to disable End of Call Notification.
Customers can dial *100#, select My Account, then Airtime and Data Usage, followed by End of Call Notification and opt out.
The company has advised customers who continue receiving the notifications after following the steps to contact customer care and provide a screenshot of the message.
For customers specifically affected by Funny Dynamic Signature prompts, Safaricom's latest response gives a direct option: send STOP to 836.
Those who have activated Call Sign themselves can instead use *836# to manage or unsubscribe from the service.
The clarification provides customers with separate steps depending on whether they are receiving a Call Sign message from another subscriber or have subscribed to the service themselves.
