KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Aug, 2026) The visiting US-based journalist, Arif Afzal Usmani, remarked on Thursday that the trend of the media has undergone a massive change over the years which has been the hallmark of the scribes across the globe. He was speaking during a reception held in his honour here at the Karachi Press Club (KPC).
Arif Usmani, Chief Editor of Daily Asia Tribune, brought out from New Jersey for the past 16 years, threw light on the various aspects of his career as a broadcaster and journalist which has now spanned more than 40 years.
He recalled having started his journey from a school broadcast of Radio Pakistan but his professional career took off when doing the famous programme, Aalami Sports Round-up, which was produced by the legendary figure of Azeem Sarwar, who was also credited to have groomed quite a few sports journalists who later ruled the media industry.
Arif Usmani, who debuted for Radio Pakistan from the programme Khel Kay Maidan Se, which was produced by Aqeel Ashraf in the early 1980s, shared the past experiences with his colleagues. Later, he became a contributor to the sports and showbiz pages of Daily Hurriyet, under the leadership of another stalwart in journalism, Syed Sajid Ali Sajid.
He noted that the field of journalism has witnessed dramatic changes in the recent past with the advent of the latest technologies and gadgets.
Former two-times Joint Secretary of KPC, Ehsan Qureshi, who conducted the proceedings, narrated the rise of Arif Usmani from an enthusiastic young sports broadcaster and reporter to the editor of a daily newspaper, highlighting his hardwork and persistence.
The KPC President, Fazil Jamili, and the KPC Secretary, Muhammad Aslam Khan, welcomed and lauded the remarkable contribution of Arif Usmani to the field of journalism and broadcasting. The KPC office-bearers vowed to continue inviting senior journalists to share their professional experiences.
Sattar Javed and Tariq Aslam, who were the co-hosts of the event, also praised the services of Arif Usmani and they wished him the best of luck for future. The ceremony was attended by a number of senior journalists, former colleagues and friends.
