The BusConnects Galway Dublin Road Scheme will proceed, following a response to a parliamentary question by Galway West TD, John Connolly.
Funding for scheme is expected to be included in the NTA's upcoming draft Integrated Implementation Plan, which is due to be published for public consultation by the end of 2026.
The NTA also confirmed that the construction is scheduled to begin in early 2029 and that the project is expected to be completed mid-2031.
Deputy Connolly said the response provides long-awaited confirmation for one of Galway's most important transport projects.
'This is positive news for Galway. The NTA has confirmed to me that the Dublin Road Scheme is expected to be included in its next capital investment programme, providing a clear pathway for the project to move forward.'
He said the scheme will play a key role in tackling congestion and improving public transport along one of Galway's busiest routes, as it serves Merlin Park Hospital, Bon Secours Hospital and ATU.
The route will begin at the Brothers of Charity and end at Castlegar GAA Club.
