Eve Reveals Why Her Marriage to Husband Maximillion Cooper Remains Strong After 12 Years (Exclusive)

The Grammy-winning rapper, 47, married the English entrepreneur, 54, in June 2014 after three years of dating. Today, the spouses reside in London and share 4-year-old son Wilde Wolf, while Eve is a stepmother to Cooper's four kids from a previous relationship: Jagger, Lotus, Mini and Cash. Eve tells PEOPLE she and Cooper "don't really" have any rules in their marriage, but they support one another in their lives and careers. "I was already mid-thirties by the time we got married, and this is his second marriage," she says. "I think we both came into the relationship fully ourselves." "We enjoy seeing each other do what we love," adds the Philadelphia-born "Satisfaction" musician of the Gumball 3000 motor rally founder. "We step back when we need to, we come forward when we need to, and we try to be as honest with each other as we can." "That really helps us," she notes. "Just allowing each other to be who they are and also just being really communicative and honest when you need to be." Cooper's career is a far cry from Eve's work as a rapper, but he's attended many of her shows over the years in support and counts himself a fan. "He loves it," she says. "It is nice having a partner that really celebrates you doing the thing that you love." The fact that Eve and Cooper's professional lives are so different actually allows them to connect on a unique level as romantic partners. "You can step back a little bit, and also you have something to talk about," she explains. "Not to say that people who are in the same industries don't, but I do think it's nice when you come together and can explain, or there are questions that might come from someone who's not in your same industry, and you have interesting discussions about it." Eve teamed up with Spotify and Depop last month for an event at the Hollywood Premiere Motel in Los Angeles last month, where she delivered a performance of hits including "Who's That Girl?" and "Tambourine." The event came a few months after the 25th anniversary of Eve's sophomore album, 2001's Scorpion. In October, she'll embark on a tour of the U.K. and Europe to celebrate the project — and she might add U.S. dates in the future. "We'll see," says Eve, who wants to stay close to London as Wilde starts "big school" very soon. "It might have to come to America in the spring or summer of next year."
