LAHORE - A modern counseling hall equipped with the latest facilities has been established in the Department of Psychiatry at Lahore General Hospital (LGH) and named after renowned psychiatrist Prof.Altaf Qadir,here on Friday. Principal Ameer-ud-Din Medical College/Postgraduate Medical Institute Prof. Dr.Farooq Afzal formally inaugurated the Prof. Altaf Qadir Counseling Hall on Friday. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Dr.Farooq Afzal said that the complete recovery of patients was not limited to medicines and medical examinations alone, as psychological and functional rehabilitation was equally essential. He stressed that mental health treatment should not rely solely on medication,adding that restoring patients' social and mental abilities through group therapy and occupational therapy was necessary to enable them to become useful and active members of society. Prof. Dr.Farooq Afzal said the newly established counseling hall would serve as a dedicated and modern facility for group therapy and occupational therapy, helping accelerate the rehabilitation process of patients.

Head of the Psychiatry Department Prof.Faiza Athar said the establishment of the Prof.Altaf Qadir Counseling Hall would provide patients visiting the hospital with modern counseling and therapy facilities.
She added that the initiative would not only contribute to the individual recovery of patients but would also have positive effects on mental health awareness at the societal level.
Medical experts said the modern counseling hall would ensure improved treatment facilities for patients while also helping raise awareness about mental health in society, paving the way for further positive changes in the future.
