Columbus man who allegedly ‘ambushed' wife in deadly shooting considered armed and dangerous

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A wanted man who police said 'ambushed' his wife in a deadly shooting remains at large going on three years. According to Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, Jose Antonio Gomez-Santana is to be considered armed and dangerous and is wanted in the death of his wife, Angel Rena Gomez. Police said Gomez was gunned down at a home on Pepperwood Court in west Columbus. Gomez-Santana and Gomez were having marital problems, police said, and going through a separation. On the afternoon of Sept. 25, 2023, Gomez-Santana reportedly convinced Gomez to return to her home, so he could meet her there and return some of her belongings. Police said Gomez-Santana, however, hid inside of his car, waited for Gomez to arrive at the home and 'ambushed' her with gunfire. Gomez-Santana allegedly shot Gomez several times before fleeing the scene. Officers arrived at the Westland home, near Galloway Road, shortly after the shooting, but Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. For a previous report on this story view the video player above. Columbus police believe Gomez-Santana, now 52, has ties to the west side of the city, as well as New York and Puerto Rico, with family and friends that may be willing to harbor and hide him as a wanted fugitive.
