59-year-old inmate found dead at Jefferson County jail

BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail-Bessemer Division was found dead Monday. The 59-year-old McCalla man, who has been identified but whose family has not been notified, was found unresponsive by jail staff in his cell at about 2:15 p.m. He was pronounced dead at about 2:45 p.m. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of death. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office said no evidence of foul play had been found in connection with the death at this time.
