Benton County teen charged as adult in drug possession case just months after murder charge dismissed

BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Benton County teen who had a murder charge dismissed last year is being charged as an adult in a separate case, according to court documents. Jordan Mandujano, 16, was charged as an adult on Aug. 28 with two counts of delivery of methamphetamine or cocaine, use of a communication device and delivery of a Schedule VI controlled substance. Documents said that Mandujano was in possession of between two and 10 grams of cocaine and more than 14 grams of tetrahydrocannabinol, a Schedule VI controlled substance. He is being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 12. Mandujano's new charges come less than a year after his and Amy Mandujano's adult murder charges were nolle prosequi in Benton County Circuit Court, meaning prosecutors will not prosecute the case any further. Jordan and Amy Mandujano were among the 10 charged last year in connection with the shooting death of 41-year-old Andres Fonseca. Noel Gates, the lone suspect not originally charged with murder, pleaded guilty to three counts of soliciting a minor to join a gang and one count of hindering apprehension or prosecution in November. He was sentenced to 15 years of probation and ordered to have no unsupervised contact with minors except for his biological children. Court documents filed in July said that prosecutors were still weighing whether to seek the death penalty against Nicasio, Ortiz, Jesus Rodriguez and Manuel Rodriguez. All seven remaining suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 14. Case background Heavily redacted affidavits say officers responded to a shooting around 12:09 a.m. on March 8 that had just occurred at the intersection of South B Street and East Southern Trace Drive in Rogers. When they arrived, officers found a Hispanic man, later identified as Fonseca, lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Fonseca was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police found camera footage that showed three people in a group standing across from Fonseca, shooting three separate guns in his direction. The affidavits say Fonseca can be seen in the video footage falling to the ground and then rolling several times. The footage showed four people fleeing in a Dodge Charger and a black passenger car. The three who shot the guns fled on foot. The affidavits say the people who fled on foot, in the Charger and in the passenger car appear to be associated. Court documents say the shooting may have been tied to gang activity in Northwest Arkansas.
