Lieutenant Badal Tops Young Officers' Course at College of Military Engineering Pune

The Young Officers' Course at the College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune, concluded on 8 September 2026, marking the completion of specialised professional training for young officers of the Indian Army and Friendly Foreign Countries. The course is designed to prepare young officers to take on responsibilities as effective Platoon Commanders in combat. The training focuses on developing the professional competence, leadership qualities and operational skills required of officers serving in demanding combat environments. Along with officers of the Indian Army, 11 officers from Friendly Foreign Countries successfully completed the course. The participating foreign officers represented Nepal, Sri Lanka, Cameroon, Tanzania, Gambia and Uganda, highlighting the continuing military training cooperation between India and partner nations. Lieutenant Badal distinguished himself during the course by standing first among the Indian Army officers. For his performance, he was awarded the Silver Grenade as well as the GOC-in-C Army Training Command Award. Among the officers from Friendly Foreign Countries, Captain Arya John Shreshta of the Nepal Army secured the first position. The closing address was delivered by Lieutenant General AK Ramesh, SM, Commandant of the College of Military Engineering. Addressing the young officers, he urged them to imbibe resilience, initiative and a mission-first approach as they prepare to shoulder greater responsibilities in their respective armies. The successful completion of the course equips the young officers with the professional foundation required to lead troops as Platoon Commanders while reinforcing the qualities of leadership, adaptability and operational effectiveness expected of Combat Engineers.
