There was great delight across schools in North Cork after students received their Leaving Cert results on Friday morning, August 21. The deputy principal at Boherbue Comprehensive School, DJ McSweeney said the students and the school are absolutely delighted. 'The results were very good overall. We had one student who got eight H1 grades and two other students got six H1 grades. We are all delighted with the results.' The Minister of State at the Department of Education with special responsibility for Special Education and Inclusion Michael Moynihan visited the school to congratulate the students on their achievement. Mr McSweeney paid tribute to the students for their hard work since they began secondary school in 2020. 'We held a function for them in the school canteen, and we congratulated them on their achievements. They are great ambassadors for the school. The students are on a high. They worked hard and the teachers worked hard with them.' 'Our students are very happy with the results,' stated the deputy principal. 'There is something out there for everyone. There are different options there now that were not around long ago. There are alternative routes as well if students don't get their first choice. 'The number of students doing trades would be smaller. We will know more in the coming days. The opportunities to do trades has gone up and there is a great variety in trades now as well. Most students will go the college route,' he added. Mr McSweeney urged the students to celebrate and to savour the moment. 'They have worked hard and they deserve to celebrate with their friends and family members. They deserve the pat on the back. They will now move on with their career, and we wish them the very best going forward.' The principal of Coláiste Treasa Kanturk, Veronica Walsh said their students are all delighted with their results. 'We are very proud of them. Everybody is so happy with their results. They did very well in their exams. They were a fantastic year. They were a very close group. The students came in to the school. Some of them waited until they got to look at the physical results.' Ms Walsh said any students who are unsure about their next step can touch base with the guidance counsellor in the North Cork school. 'Fiona Goulding is our guidance counsellor, and she is available to chat with any students who are unsure about the next step in their educational journey. There are also helplines. There are so many courses, opportunities and pathways now for students. 'The big day for the students is when the CAO offers come out. It is a very exciting time for the students. They have their whole lives ahead of them. They are so delighted and relieved that it is all over. They were in and they were all hugging each other. There are lots of opportunities for everybody. It is not all defined by your points at the end of the day,' she added. 'I hope they enjoy this moment,' stated Ms Walsh. 'They are a fantastic bunch. They did a musical when they were in Transition Year and they were unbelievable. They have that camaraderie since.'
