KZN Public Works achieves first clean audit under DA MEC

Historic Clean Audit for KZN Public Works, under DA MEC, Martin Meyer 7 September 2026 – DPWI producing real results – Clean, accountable, responsible government possible under GPU – DA committed to ensuring responsible use of public funds, delivery to all The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) congratulates Public Works and Infrastructure MEC, Martin Meyer and his department on achieving the first ever clean audit since it was originally formed. Not only is this a governance milestone and recognition by the Auditor General, it is an endorsement of good DA governance. It is proof that clean, accountable and responsible government is possible when there is political will and decisive leadership. For too long, South Africans have watched public money being lost through poor financial management, waste and a lack of accountability. Under the DA, and where the DA governs, taxpayer money is treated with respect, spent wisely on delivery of services and infrastructure, and expenditure stands up to audit scrutiny. This is how corruption is cut out where the DA governs. DA governments and DA departments are increasingly leading the way to deliver, by appropriately spending public money on public good. A clean audit is more than a marker of good governance, it also shows that the DA plays by the rules, and follows the rule of law. Under MEC Meyer's leadership, the department has demonstrated this. We are very proud of their achievement and for showing KZN and South Africa what good governance can do. From national government, to provincial government, and to local government, the DA gets things working through sound financial management. The DA believes a clean audit should not be celebrated as an extraordinary achievement, but should become the minimum standard expected from every government department. We congratulate MEC Meyer and his team on this historic accomplishment. It stands for what the DA – as a partner within KZN's Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) – is working towards: clean government, accountability, responsible use of public funds and delivery to all our people.
