Iran Shoots Down US MQ-1 Drone over Strait of Hormuz
The Iranian Army says its air defense has shot down a US MQ-1 drone over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Army said its air defense forces detected, tracked and targeted the drone in southeastern Iran before striking and destroying it.
The Army said the operation was carried out using 'a new advanced air defense system.'
It added that the operation was conducted 'under the control of the country's integrated air defense network.'
Earlier on Tuesday, IRGC Deputy Commander Major General Mostafa Izadi said Iranian armed forces remain 'firmly and forcefully' in control of the Strait of Hormuz and are fully deployed and combat-ready to protect the country's southern coastal areas.
Izadi said forces from the IRGC, the Army and the Law Enforcement Force are fully prepared and deployed across the country's southern islands and other areas of the south, 'and are continuing to carry out their missions with strength and resolve.'
He added that Iran was taking appropriate measures in response to the illegal US blockade, noting that some of those measures had already been implemented.
