Gujarat CM and all MLAs to join Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam plantation drive

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, members of the Council of Ministers, and all 182 MLAs will participate in a tree plantation programme at the Sachivalaya in Gandhinagar on Wednesday as part of the third phase of the nationwide Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. The drive is scheduled ahead of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly session, which begins on September 9. The plantation will take place at the Sachivalaya premises opposite the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Gujarat Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, the Chief Minister, ministers, and all MLAs will plant trees in an effort to reaffirm their dedication to environmental conservation. It will be held immediately after the inauguration of the state-of-the-art disaster management facility, BHISHM Cube, at the Sachivalaya. State ministers, MLAs, and other dignitaries attending the Assembly have been invited to participate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, as a people's movement to encourage tree planting and environmental preservation. The campaign has advanced through multiple phases since its inception. ADVERTISEMENT Gujarat introduced the third phase, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 3.0, in June 2026, focusing on expanding green cover and increasing community participation in plantation efforts. According to the Union Environment Ministry, plantations under the campaign are documented on the Meri LiFE portal, with those carried out by State Forest Departments and Union Territories geotagged and monitored; survival assessments are conducted by the respective authorities. The Gujarat government has promoted the initiative as part of its broader agenda prioritising environmental conservation, green growth, and sustainable development. This event at the Sachivalaya will reinforce the campaign's message through the collective involvement of Gujarat's elected representatives.
