Don Cicci fuses 1970s Italian influence, boom bap rhythms and hypnotic trip-hop textures into cinematic new instrumental, Polpette

Drawing us in with subtle environmental noise and a delicate yet emotional piano introduction, Don Cicci opens Polpette with cinematic intrigue. The opus expands with a dimensional synth performance and textured, boom bap hip-hop hybrid drums. We connect with the immersive nature of the composition and the intricacy that manifests. There's also a 90s trip-hop throwback that comes to life, especially with the more meditative tones of the synths. The piano is nuanced, creating cosmic ripples, whilst the more hypnotic nature of the protagonist synth feels sublime and peaceful. The chord changes are welcome, adding dynamism to the piece. The record scratches lead us through to a poetic guitar performance, whilst the drums are given their space to shine as the synth pulls out. Microtonal detailing brings to life the more worldly energy of the composition. There is no doubt that Polpette would be perfect for the score of a Pedro Almodóvar film or a Luca Guadagnino picture. We could also imagine this playing in a speakeasy in Sicily, Barcelona, Silverlake or East London. The track goes full circle with a reprise of the main synth whilst taking on a more syncopated energy for the finale. For some context, Don Cicci is a London-based producer and artist who developed his craft while studying for a Music Management degree at Point Blank Music School. Working from his home-based studio, he has developed a distinctive production style shaped by his admiration for 1970s Italian compositions. His work combines contemporary boom bap aesthetics with carefully selected samples, beat chopping, layered loops and intricate programming, demonstrating a meticulous approach to arrangement and production. We learn that Polpette is one of Don Cicci's favourite works and the first track of his EP of the same name. The track features sampled elements including Fine Wine by TY. Don Cicci describes the piece as an expression of 'beauty and street grit', whilst its 1970s Italian compositional influence places it firmly within the sonic approach that has become an important part of his wider catalogue.
